Patronage in the form of jobs and top-down control of the party nominating processes kept the old machines humming. Civil service and primary elections (rather than nominating conventions) smashed them. Reform, huh? But are we better off?
Trump is, as you said, a loser. But, he’s a loser whose minions and disciples shower with money, something that baffles me. It’s all about his ego and money. He never measured up in his father’s eyes and, I believe, that is at the root of his mental health issues. He’s a mess.
I grew up during the era of the Daley (the Elder) Machine in Chicago. Preceint captains knocked on doors monthly to make sure you were hqppy and knew how to cast you votes, our streets were clean and shoveled in the winter, garbage was picked up on time, schools were funded as were police and fire debts., etc. The city ran like a finely tuned Elgin watch. But the city remained deeply segregated and poor neighborhoods and poor people were largely ignored. When the '68 D Convention came to town he erected tall billboards along the highway to keep neighborhood blight hidden from visitors ... and armed our streets to keep protesters at bay.

Trump is less Boss than he thinks.

True! One customer, Himself! Trump, the great !!!
So true. Real bosses know how to get things done.
Is the former occupant of the White House in it for raising money? He has raised a lot.
Wonder what “Boss Crump” would think.
