I know my aunt Frances adored your mother! They were at East High School together. I met her several times in my childhood--and you, too. I didn't know your mother well, but I was always impressed with her spirit and her willingness to work hard for what she wanted and believed to be right, so I guess I could say your mother was one of my many role models!
That's a great memory, Keel, as always, well written. I had a bit of a bad-ass single mom in those years, too. She was a post-war German immigrant who revived a medical career after raising a couple of boys and went on to be an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt in the late sixties.
Betty Grable's got nothing on your mom's legs!
Loved reading about your mom back in the day and hearing more about your roots. love reading your columns..
A fine tribute from her accomplished Journalist Son.
I can really see Shannon’s face in that photo!
Nice tribute to your mom! Happy day!
“Bad ass” is high praise. She obviously was!
Proud of you Keel. Your Mother would be proud of all you have accomplished.
Big thumbs up emoji.

It would be fun to hear more of your memories of Frances. I always thought they were the ‘Lucy & Ethel’ in our neighborhood!

Thanks, Ralph. I would enjoy knowing more about your Mom. Seems she was rather kick-ass herself.
