Today I can’t resist posting this cool photo that was handed to me yesterday by my good friend Hershell Warren.
Seated together, in the fall of 2008, were the two most senior Tennessee leaders of their respective political parties, Ned McWherter and Howard Baker Jr. They were friends and, unlike so many lesser partisan politicos in our present day, didn’t mind being seen together in public.
This occasion was the After-Party following the presidential debate held at Belmont University.
Thanks, Hershell, for the moment - and the memory.

Those were indeed the days — gone but not forgotten. Hardly a day passes when I don’t wonder how and why we got from where we were to where we are today. Thanks for sharing the picture and remembrance.
Hearing the new podcast of former governors Phil Bredesen and Bill Haslam is a good sign of maybe learning how to do this again. Neither are currently in office as McWherter & Baker were, but hearing them both recognizing ‘the other guy may be right’ is something Baker & McWherter would have supported. Great reminder, Keel
