In all the intentional chaos and rookie incompetence that’s erupted in Washington, for my money I’m sticking with the “Radio Free Europe” story-line for now. See this update in the Times today.
“The Trump administration has failed to disburse congressionally approved funding for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the news network originally set up to counter Soviet propaganda during the Cold War, despite a judge’s order to keep it operating, according to court filings and officials at the news organization.”
For background, see also my March 23 Field Note on “Silencing the Voice of America.” Closing down Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty - and all their radio affiliates who transmit straight news from the West - is definitely one for the reference file on Russia collusion - being one certain favor from Don to Vlad.
Whatever you might think of those November election results in the U.S., there was no voter mandate from America to silence VOA, Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty. None whatever.
This errant White House is now ignoring another order from a federal judge and our tongue-tied Senators - over in that separate branch of government they are helping to make irrelevant and unequal - are condoning such defiance with their shameful silence.
