A couple more quick notes for now to my Field Note of yesterday on the extraordinary life of Randy Rayburn…
Many thanks to subscribers to the Field Notes for generously sharing your written comments and personal memories about our legendary friend Randy Rayburn. I hope all who may not have seen them yet will go back to my “Mr. Hospitality passes” and read through the comments at the bottom my post of yesterday, reflecting on Randy’s life and career. (Find yesterday’s post here. I hope you will share your thoughts, if you haven’t already.)
Also, over on Tennessean.com this morning, it’s worth your reading time to peruse the photo gallery compiled by my friend Ricky Rogers, photo archivist for the morning newspaper. It gives a much fuller view, from old photos, of the breadth of Randy’s professional life and the worthy causes he supported.
It was gratifying for me to read those heartfelt comments, as well as the the phone calls, text messages, and emails that also came into my inbox during the day yesterday. Every one a gem…
A big hat-tip and my thanks to you all.
Keel, you captured beautifully and eloquently the Randy Rayburn I knew and loved for more than a half century. He and I met in the late 60s when was a rising uTK student leader and I was a young UT administrator. Our paths crossed many times and often over the years. He and I exchanged lengthy texts just last week, and his last words were in response to my thanks to him for helping my son Chip entertain a client at Midtown. He said: “I made sure it was taken care of from my home.” That was Randy Rayburn, always helping others.
